This is the Soaring Spot Test Site. It behaves exactly the same as the live Soaring Spot except a) Uploads are ignored and b) it always returns the same flight for download.

1st FAI Pan American Gliding Championships

United States,   6 April 2015 – 18 April 2015

Apr 11 Report

We had valid results in both classes today, but we did it the hard way.

Optimism prevailed as we staged for a launch into a cool, fresh post-frontal wind under a blue sky.  The original tasks were ambitious Racing Tasks of 317 km and 273 km.

The forecast called for a straightforward soaring day of at least 5 hours duration.  Once again the unforecastable cirrostratus clouds moved in at launch time, and task setter John Good was forced to scale back to tasks of 298 and 257 km over the central part of the task area, mostly to our south.

Initially, pilots found good conditions, with 5-knot climbs to 5000 feet.  But, unfortunately, the southern end of the course was covered by cirrus, and the shade brought the soggy ground back down to a temperature below the trigger temperature.

100% outlandings, and none of them close to home!

Everyone made safe landings, with only about three on airports.  One of these was Fernando Silva (USA) who was able to get back to home base in time to lend his trailer to the crew of Luke Szczepaniak (CAN), whose trailer developed serious mechanical problems yesterday.  The rest landed in fields, some of them quite muddy.

Scoring is still in progress, but it appears that the leaders, so far, are Erik Nelson (USA) in the 15 Metre Class, and Sergio Reinaudo (ARG) in the Handicap Class.
