This is the Soaring Spot Test Site. It behaves exactly the same as the live Soaring Spot except a) Uploads are ignored and b) it always returns the same flight for download.

South African Nationals 2011

Afrique du Sud,   10 décembre 2011 – 22 décembre 2011

Day 4 - Later on – 6 pm

Carol tells the story of a day when nearly everybody got back >>>

Well an interesting day for the pilots.  For the Club class it seemed to be a long time after the gate was opened before they decided to start.  Some reported being in wave conditions prior to the start, whilst others battled to get up to height.  Whereas once the gate was opened for the 18m/Open class, some of those pilots were quite quick to get away and head off on track.  Conditions were blue, so tricky with some small tight thermals and large areas of sink, and again reports of getting as low as 250 m. a.g.l.

Uys, Attie, Oscar and Laurens started promptly and once the scoring has been completed, I imagine they will be the day’s leaders as those that left after them have not done better times.  Daniel Rodic said he had been flying with them and got low, and as Murphy would have it – once he had taken the motor out, he hit some lift, so he motored home.

At one stage someone asked Bruce Taylor where he was, and his comment was “I have been going around in circles for the last ½ hour”.

Judging by the chatter from the pilots that are back – a rewarding flight was had by most of them.  Unfortunately for him, there has been just one outlanding.
