Later

Disappointingly but also thankfully for Douglas Bradley, he experienced release hook problems on the runway.  With a bit of testing, it appeared to be working again and he was pushed back onto the runway, but when the tug was hooked up and all out, the tow rope released again – so a non-flying day.  He has taken the hook out and it was found that a spring has broken.

Mannie McLauchlan got airborne, made a start, but then got low and returned to the airfield.  He landed and then decided that it was in fact too late to make a start, so he too is not flying the task today.  Also Jennifer Bradley is not flying as a good friend is getting married in Cape Town, so she has flown there from Bloemfontein – so she will be missing today and tomorrow’s tasks.

The first finisher called before 5 p.m. and then it was a continual stream of finishers thereafter.  Maneste had a very late start in the Club class and finished at approx. 6 p.m., and Dieter Haage was the last to finish today. 

The 18m./Open class pilots that did well are happy with their flights with Arne (from Denmark)once again cleaning up the local boys, and Bruce (Australia) commenting about today “that’s more like it!”, so I guess they enjoyed the day.  Arne won the day, with Bruce 2^nd and Laurens 3^rd .  Overall it is Oscar at the top of the log being closed pursued by Ronald Termaat (Netherlands) and Arne Boye-Moller (Denmark) 3^rd.

The Club class today had joint winners with Gunter and Konrad within .01 second of each other, which overall still has Wayne Schmidt in the lead of the Club Class, Gunter Kruger 2^nd place, and Stephan v.d. Berg in 3^rd place.
